Milder Fall and Winter Predicted

The Weather Network is out with its forecast for the fall and winter seasons in the Okanagan.

Meteorologist Michael Carter says it’s shaping up to be a pleasant fall, once we get past an upcoming stretch of wet weather.

“For Vernon and the Okanagan in general, we have a lot of mild days to look forward to this fall. We really do expect the sun to come back and temperatures to come back up, and really kind of a lack of storminess, at least through a lot of the heart of the fall season,” Carter tells Beach Radio News.

Fall officially arrives this Saturday.

Carter says winter is expected to be milder, possibly influenced by a global weather pattern.

“We’re seeing some signs perhaps of a developing El Nino, at least a weak one this year, which would certainly lead us to think we might be tipping towards the milder side for the upcoming winter season.”

Carter says despite that, the ski resorts, should be okay.

“I think our higher elevation slopes are not going to have anything to worry about this year. We should see plenty of snow to bring that season together. For the slopes that are a little lower in elevation, with the milder pattern, perhaps it will take a little bit longer to develop those bases and get those slopes open for business.”
