Darrin Taylor Town Hall Draws Interest

Darrin Taylor Town Hall Draws Interest

Sep 18, 2018 | 9:56 AM

Vernon Mayoralty candidate Darrin Taylor is more convinced he’s focussing on the right issues in his campaign after his 2nd town hall last night.

From 35 to 40 people turned out, many concerned about the same 3, 4, five points that have been coming up regularly in recent months.

“Those issues tend to be the safety concerns on our streets, issues on the economy in Vernon, recreation facilities, you know the recurring issue of holding the reins on taxes and controlling tax increases.”

Taylor says it was a diverse crowd with some interesting questions and good back and forth.

But one other issue that hasn’t been discussed much is rising.

“Road closures, particularly downtown and the impacts that those major works projects have had on the viability of businesses downtown.”

Taylor says there may be a number of ways to get around that.

“The idea of working long days, looking at 24/7 projects or 24/5 projects. You know, I’m the type of person that’s prepared to look at all the options, turn over a few rocks and see at what we can do different.”

Taylor he likes the opportunity to engage with people and intends to hold at least one more before the election.

Of the other candidates, only Erik Oleson has scheduled a town hall for September 26th at the Schubert Centre.
