Carnival Looking For New Events

Carnival Looking For New Events

Sep 17, 2018 | 3:00 PM

Organizers of Vernon Winter Carnival are looking for new events to be part of its 59th annual celebration next February.

Executive director Vicki Proulx says they’re excited to see what events people come up with, given the fun Pirates Carnival theme.

She says last year there were over 90 events hosted over the 10 day event.

“We already have many of the returning favorite events booked in, but we’re really hoping to see some new events this year and would love to encourage people to revive past Carnival events.”

Carnival chair Deb White says with the 60th anniversary close at hand, they are hoping to bring back many of the events from the past, showcasing the rich history of the event.

“This year’s theme lends itself to so many interpretations that we can’t wait to see the many different costumes and floats.”

Anyone is welcome to host an event, and organizers have a choice to host a free event or a ticketed event.

Ticketed events not only generate money for the organizer, but also support Vernon Winter Carnival Society.

All events that are submitted are promoted under the Carnival umbrella including a listing in the Carnival brochure, which has 16,000 copies distributed throughout Greater Vernon.

The deadline for event applications is Friday October 12th.
