Armstrong Mayor Positive About UBCM Meet

Armstrong Mayor Positive About UBCM Meetings

Sep 14, 2018 | 6:11 AM

Armstrong’s Mayor and other’s from the city have been busy at the UBCM this week meeting with provincial government representatives to talk about flood mitigation.

Chris Pieper says it was a good time to talk with emergency management and forestry staff.

“And just basically lay out the concerns that we have with the Meighan and Deep Creek flooding events in Armstrong as well as the way that you have to deal with ministry bureaucracy.”

Pieper says getting through the red tape is critical.

“Yes it is. Absolutely it’s various ministries, it’s various people and everybody has a problem taking responsibility I believe.”

He says when there are sometimes common sense solutions to a problem it should go through the bureaucratic world a lot better.

Pieper says he thinks the government heard them.

“I did, I really did. I think they uh, they definitely listened. But you never know until afterwards, the result.”

Pieper says meetings last year about the RCMP resulted in much better communication with the RCMP and government and positive results.

He says UBCM provides a good opportunity to have communication with other community leaders and build a relationship with M-L-A’s when you really need them, no matter which party they are with.
