Casino Strike Mediation Resumes

Casino Strike Mediation Resumes

Sep 4, 2018 | 12:03 PM

CJIB News has learned bargaining was to resume today between Gateway Casinos and the BCGEU, representing 675 striking workers in the Okanagan and Kamloops

Talks were scheduled for today through September 7th.

Both sides have agreed not to discuss the matter with the media during the process.

Two previous attempts at mediation have failed, with the union saying at the time that the company was offering an insulting wage offer while Gateway claimed the union was refusing to negotiate.

The BCGEU said the company’s wage package was still below planned minimum wage increases.

A Gateway spokesperson responded by saying the employer’s offer was fair and reasonable for the market dynamics in the Thompson-Okanagan.

The workers walked off the job June 29th.
