Woman Dies, Two Injured In Coldstream Crash

Feb 6, 2018 | 11:47 AM

Poor road conditions are to blame for last evening’s accident on Highway 6 in Coldstream that took the life of an 18 year old Vernon woman.

RCMP Constable Kelly Brett says the accident just after 6 p-m at the junction with the King Edward Forest Service Road involved a minivan and a pickup truck.

“Through investigation we’ve learned that the driver of the minivan lost control due to poor weather, crossed the centre line of the highway and was broadsided by the truck which was westbound. The minivan was eastbound.”

The young woman who died was driving the minivan.

“The surviving passenger of the minivan was a 12 year old Vernon girl as well. She received minor injuries. The driver of the truck was a 67 year old Vernon male who suffered minor injuries as well.”

Constable Brett says the combination of low lighting, snow and slush contributed to the crash.

“Even the emergency personnel responding, that included fire, ambulance and police, had to drive very slow on the highway just to reach the accident. It was very, very slippery.”

The names of those involved in the accident won’t be released.
