Brett says RCMP wish to extend thanks to the general public for their patience and support.

“We extend our gratitude especially to those residents who were displaced from their homes or asked to remain inside and for their patience and understanding during what was a very dynamic situation.”

RCMP will now begin to remove resources from the immediate area, and anticipate allowing residents to return to their homes very soon.

The public can expect to see some officers remain at the scene for processing.

UPDATE: 11:45 am

A standoff between police and a man in Coldstream continues.

Officers armed with rifles continue to maintain their position around a home in the 11800 block of Torrent Drive where a distraught male is inside alone, and thought to be armed.

Cst. Kelly Brett says the incident has been ongoing since around midnight, with specially trained officers trying to communicate with the man.

“There’s no updates as yet. We are still in position, and still negotiating with the male,” Brett tells CJIB News.

Brett says homes in the immediate area remain evacuated, for safety reasons.

Kidston Elementary is just a couple blocks away, but the school is said to be operating as normal.

Road traffic remains blocked on part of Kidston Road, and on Torrent Drive and Cottonwood Lane.

Police are asking social media users not to publicize the physical location of officers through photos, videos or words.

Update 8:10 am

An unfolding police incident has been contained to a single home, located in Coldstream.

RCMP ask residents of the immediate area to stay in their homes, while specifically trained officers continue efforts to communicate with the distraught male.

On February 4th, 2018 shortly before 12:00 am, the Vernon RCMP were called to a home in the 11800 block of Torrent Drive, Vernon, for reports of a very distraught male, believed to be armed and alone inside his home.

As a precautionary measure, police have evacuated the immediately effected residents of the surrounding homes to ensure their personal safety.

“Police are asking all remaining residents, within the immediate area of the 11800 block of Torrent Drive, to stay inside and seek shelter within their homes”. Says RCMP spokesperson Cst. Kelly Brett. “RCMP also ask that the general public avoid the area, as temporary road closures have been put in place.”

The following roads are affected; Torrent Drive, Kidston Road and Cottonwood Lane.

RCMP ask that media and social media users to refrain from publicizing the physical location of our officers, be it via verbal descriptors, photographs and or videos.

The RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response (ERT) and specifically trained negotiators have been called to the scene, as police continue their efforts to make contact and communicate with the man.

RCMP have yet to release details of what exactly is going on in the vicinity of Kalamalka Lake Road and Kidston.

Police have blocked off Kidston and people living in the area of Torrent Drive report they were told by police earlier this morning not to leave their homes.

Police could also be heard calling a person’s name..

It’s believed that person is in a home on Torrent Drive.

According to neighbour reports police showed up about 2 o’clock this morning.
