Rail Trail Open Houses This Week

Oct 3, 2017 | 8:39 AM

With construction set to start on the Okanagan Rail Trail project, residents are invited to have a look at the latest plans.

Project Manager Andrew Gibbs is inviting people to attend three Open Houses this week.

“The Open House is really about this first phase of construction. feature phases are going to come hopefully next year. But it’s all subject to funding being there, whether it’s grant funding or donations. Just encourage everyone if they out there and like the trail they see being built donate some money so we can finish it off.”

Gibbs says the Open Houses will show more detailed plans outlining exactly what the construction work is going to be, where it’s going to go and the timing.

“We’ve gone out to pricing and got bid backs for the first phase of construction in Lake Country and the North Okanagan . We hope to award those contracts later this week. We’ve got some geo-tech work about to get underway in the North Okanagan and Lake Country as well, which is really good.”

The first Open House will go from 4-6:30 today at the Coldstream Municipal Hall on Kal Lake Road.

The next two are tomorrow in the foyer of the Community Complex at GESS, 10241 Bottom Wood Lake Road in Lake Country, and Thursday at the Parkinson Recreation Centre at 1800 Parkinson Way in Kelowna.

Both of those meetings also run from 4pm to 6:30 pm.
