Lumby Mayor Welcomes True Leaf

Sep 29, 2017 | 10:47 AM

Lumby’s Mayor is glad to hear that True Leaf Medicine International is planning an expansion into the village.

Kevin Acton says the company has been talking with civic officials about it and it will be a good addition to the local industrial park.

“We have yet to see what  the final outcome of provincial and federal government are as far as the rules go, but , you know, they’re moving toward legalization and I think this company is on top of it, so  we’re excited about having them come to Lumby.”

True Leaf says it’s acquired an option to buy 40 acres of land for it’s facility and is waiting for final licence approval from Health Canada to grow medicinal marijuana.

Acton says it will bring much needed jobs to the community.

“Some jobs and tax base. It’s always beneficial for a small community like ours when people are willing to make that kind of investment.”

Kevin Acton says it should also lead to more businesses showing an interest in Lumby.

“Absolutely, I think anytime big business like this is looking at our industrial park it shows our doors are open and we’re ready to do business.”

He says council is very progressive and always interested in helping business get up and get going.
