Liberal MLA Stays Neutral On Leadership Race

The MLA for Vernon Monashee says he won’t publicly be backing any specific candidate in the race for the Liberal leadership.

Eric Foster says he will stay neutral, given his position as the party’s whip, who manages the caucus.

“With so many people running within caucus, I’m staying neutral because it’s part of my responsibility to manage who is in the house, and who isn’t,” Foster tells Kiss FM.

Foster says he won’t divulge who he supports —  even after the vote.

“It would be inappropriate for me to take sides. My job kind of dictates that I should stay out of it, so I’m going to do that.”

Foster expects up to nine people could seek Christy Clark’s former position.

He doesn’t see any downside to the party, such as hard feelings among some, once the winner is decided in February.

“We have to keep this on a high level, and the candidates will. There’s no question about it. They’re good people. They understand how important it is that, when you come out on the other side, everyone has to be behind that person,” adds Foster, who is serving his third term in Victoria.
