Update: Accused Pleads Not Guilty To Child Porn Charges

Sep 25, 2017 | 6:00 PM

Update: Sept 26:

The fate of a Vernon man on trial for child pornography charges will rest with a BC Supreme Court judge’s decision.

55 year old William Munton has pleaded not guilty to two counts of making child pornography, and one of possessing it.

His lawyer has made a charter argument over the way police seized images of alleged child porn from Munton’s home, his computer, and his cell phone.

The defence has made its case for having that evidence thrown out, which would likely end the Crown’s case.

Justice Hope Hyslop will issue her ruling on the evidence Wednesday morning.

A Vernon man has pleaded not guilty to child pornography charges in BC Supreme Court in Vernon.

55 year old William Munton is charged with two counts of making child pornography, and one of possessing it.

The alleged offences occurred between 2011 and 2016.

Crown attorney Jeremy Guild says images were seized from Munton’s home, his computer, and his cell phone.

Defence lawyer Julian Van Der Walle is seeking to have that evidence excluded, questioning the validity of the police search warrants in a voir dire to examine the evidence.

The Crown says the images were seized as part of an arson investigation by police on Munton.

He is charged with 19 counts of arson in a separate case that has yet to be tried.

The child pornography charges trial is being held before Madam Justice Hope Hyslop.
