Parking Lot Delayed By Fuel Tank
The plan to add more parking in downtown Vernon has been delayed.
The city is in the process of creating a paved lot on 29th Street by the library, after tearing down the former New Delhi Restaurant and Open Learning Centre buildings in June.
However, City real estate manager Brett Bandy says the discovery of an underground oil tank on the site means the lot likely won’t be finished until next spring.
“The soil was contaminated, so it’s being removed and remediated. You will see them out there digging the hole. It’s going to unfortunately set us back for when that parking lot will be complete. We won’t be able to pave it before the snow flies.”
