Funtastic Executive Director Resigns

Sep 20, 2017 | 10:03 AM

The Funtastic Sports Society will have a new Executive Director.

Tony Pallas resigned his position prior to last evening’s Annual General Meeting.

His contract wasn’t up until November, but Pallas says he and the board weren’t seeing eye to eye on how to manage the direction of the Society.

“You know a hundred per cent we’re both in agreeance of the same direction. Really as the Executive Director of the Society, I take the ideas of what the Board of Directors have and try to work with them in regards to implementing them from the drawing board into reality. Sometimes it just doesn’t work that way.”

He says there are things that need to be done to make Funtastic a viable entity.

Pallas says the Society needs to find a way to grow its grassroots.

“I think the reality of what’s missing is simply some support from the public to have a lot more volunteers and people behind it to make this thing happen.”

He says he has great respect for the volunteers who do come out and the hard work the board itself puts in.

Pallas says the Society does great work to fund non-profit sports groups.

“But when it comes down to the real nitty gritty and work that has to be done to make those funds happen, to make the event happen, there’s really very select few volunteers that can show up and put in the hours that need to be done. So essentially what we need is the community support to rally behind it.”

Pallas says there needs to be more commitment to have five or six people instead of one working 20 hour days.
