RespectFEST 2017 Underway

Sep 18, 2017 | 6:10 AM

RespectFEST 2017 gets underway today in the North Okanagan.

Lauren Gilley with the Downtown Vernon Association is the coordinator for the week long event, funded in part by the federal government.

“And it’s a week long festival of celebration of respect and diversity in the North Okanagan . We’ve got 25 plus free events happening throughout Vernon and the North Okanagan between September 18th and the 24th.”

Gilley outlines a couple of other events you can get in on.

“The Allan Brooks Nature Centre is hosting four days of free demonstrations of the raptor birds. That’s happening from Thursday to Sunday. The Caetani Centre is hosting a 1920’s games afternoon and house tour on Wednesday”

The biggest event will be a multicultural festival on Saturday by City Hall with food, music and dancing.

“It’s right by the museum and City Hall there. We’ve got lots of stages with music and cultural programming. Lots of opportunities to learn about diversity in our community and have a lot of fun doing it.”

There’s a free pancake breakfast in the Civic Square from 9 to 11 this morning.
