Vernon Habitat For Humanity House Delayed

Sep 11, 2017 | 6:09 AM

Completion of the Habitat for Humanity House in Vernon has been delayed.

It was hoped the triplex on 35th Avenue would be ready for occupancy this month.

Habitat Chairperson Glory Westwell says they’re hoping for November 1st now.

“Well, the delay’s been caused by the fact that it’s so busy with construction in Vernon that getting people who are willing to donate their expertise, we can’t take them away from their paid jobs.”

Glory says the heavy work was done early, and she understands that paid work has to come first. .

“That’s been part of the delay. Then the other is just getting products in on time and when you’re working with all volunteers it takes a bit longer to get going than if you’re paying somebody to do all the work.”

She’s not disappointed though.

“Realistically, it was probably an unachievable goal but you know, you like to think things are going to happen sooner than they actually do. but no we’re not disappointed. The product’s a fabulous building and the homes are just wonderful.”

She says the three families moving in have been working hard themselves getting the building ready.

The interior of the complex is being painted now and the flooring is going in.

It’s hoped now it will be ready by November 1st.
