Finlay Creek Fire Now 50% Contained

Sep 10, 2017 | 10:06 AM

Crews on the Finlay Creek fire say the fire is now 50% contained.

This fire is burning in steep terrain, particularly in the northern flank of the fire.
Crews and heavy equipment continued working on building new guards around the fire’s northern perimeter. Estimates are that Saturday night will be the last night of operations conducted overnight.

Structural protection personnel have assessed the southern flank of the fire and set up equipment on high priority properties. Crews and specialists continue to assess other areas of the fire.

Yesterday the Okanagan Valley received approximately 5 millimeters of rain, but the fire received significantly less precipitation.
Although weather is cooler, gusts of wind are forecast out of the southwest, which could increase fire behaviour in some areas of the fire today.
