Fire Near Keremeos Burns Unchecked

Sep 8, 2017 | 11:40 AM

A small fire burning on K Mountain about 6 kilometres south of Keremeos is being left to burn because fire crews can`t get to it.

Justine Hunse with the BC Wildfire Service says firefighters can only get in by aircraft and it`s not safe right now.

“Visibility is so poor in the Similkameen that it has been unsafe for us to deploy aircraft.”

There’s hope the weather will clear somewhat later today to go in.

The fire is burning at the top of the mountain and is not threatening any buildings.

After it started last night, flames could clearly be seen from Keremeos through the smoke that has been blanketing the area.

It’s not known how the fire started.
