Finlay Fire Attack Bolstered

Sep 6, 2017 | 12:06 PM

The Finlay Creek wildfire southwest of Peachland continues to burn out of control.

Fire information officer Heather Rice says more resources have been brought in to help the fight.

” We do now have 47 firefighters on site and helicopters, 23 pieces of heavy equipment.”

Smoke this morning prevented any air attack, but it is clearing now and wind is light.

The fire remains at 1000 hectares

Rice says progress is being made building guard lines.

“Machine guards and then in the steeper areas where we can’t put machines in we continue to have crews building hand guard lines.”

Meanwhile, an area restriction has now been placed in the region and will be in effect until noon October 31st.

“That’s to protect the public from coming into the area and keep them safe as well as keeping our firefighters safe so we don’t have people in the area unexpectedly

It includes Darke Lake Provincial Park, Garnet Lake and Munro Lake Forest Service Road.
