55+ Games Needs More Volunteers

The 55 Plus BC Games will get underway a week from today.

Thirty-six-hundred participants in 27 sports will take part in the event in Vernon, Coldstream and Armstrong.

Wee Yee, the president of the organizing committee, says they still need a few more volunteers.

“We would like to get some more. We are closing in on 11-hundred volunteers, our target is 12-hundred, so we would like to get about one hundred more.”

Yee says the extra one hundred helpers would make it easier in terms of utilizing volunteers as best they can.

The opening ceremony will be held a week from today — at Kal Tire Place.

“The venues are in place. Our municipal partners have been great in helping to get a lot of the outdoor facilities in great condition, beginning of year condition,” adds Yee, a former organizer with the Calgary Stampede.

The participants will start arriving and registering next Tuesday with competition starting on Wednesday Sept. 13.
