Vernon School District Budget Set for Approval

The Vernon School District’s budget for next school year totals 97.5 million dollars.

The proposed budget calls for an extra 3.5 million dollars in spending, compared to last year.

Board chair Kelly Smith says that’s partly a result of having to hire more teachers due to the class size and composition ruling.

“It’ll be that, plus student enrollment numbers.”

Enrolment is expected to increase by 100 students.

She says people have taken the opportunity to get involved.

“We’ve had a lot of very good input. It’s been on the website, so the public can certainly give input at any time. We’ve had both of our unions give input.

Smith says the board is expected to finalize it at their May meeting
