GET LOUD About Mental Health
Today marks the start of Mental Health week in Canada.
It’s a week the Canadian Mental Health Association hopes offers millions of Canadian some support
Cassandra Schwarz of CMHA Vernon says the theme this year is to GET LOUD.
” Getting loud is about speaking out about mental health in our community. It’s about bringing the conversation to the forefront.”
She says there are various ways to take care of your mental health including avoiding social media
” Just for one day, and try because social media brings quite a bit of stress and it’s just taking a day and taking a break and living in the now.”
Most important is to not stay silent and address the stigma surrounding mental health and mental illness.
” To discuss what mental health means to you personally and what mental health is in our community.”
She says the need for mental health services for support is critical and with the provincial election underway it might be a good time to remind candidates of that.
