Vernon Councillor Promotes Environment Committee

The City of Vernon could be adding a new committee — to keep up with growing environmental demands.

Councillor Catherine Lord has asked staff to consider a sustainability and greening committee.

“Staff do keep sustainability and greening in the forefront but I think it would not hurt for us to have a committee that has a couple of councillors on it so that we too can keep it in the forefront.”

Lord says the city has to be more environmentally friendly

“Especially when we’re looking at new construction of things. If we’re going to be looking at new construction of buildings, if we’re looking at replacing vehicles, that’s when we really need to pay attention.”

Lord says “greening” is a growing movement, and the city should be part of that.
