Update: Shaw Determines Outage Cause

Update 3:35 pm

Shaw says all Internet and phone services were restored as of 3 pm for a significant number of its customers across Western Canada impacted by an outage this afternoon.

The outage began at 12:27 pm PT today, as a result of a software failure during a routine upgrade to their network.

“We are further investigating the cause,” says a media release.

“We sincerely apologize to our customers for this inconvenience,” adds the release.


Update: 2:40 pm

Shaw says some areas are back online, and they are still working on all affected areas after a major service outage.

It has left customers in parts of the country, including Vernon,  without internet, phone and TV service.

Shaw has not said what caused it.

Among the affected services were debit and credit machines in some areas of the Okanagan.


1:13 pm story

Shaw customers are having trouble getting internet and phone service.

The company says its investigating reports of service troubles, and is apologizing for any inconvenience its caused.

No estimate is given on when it may be restored, but its reportedly a national issue.

Among other things, it’s said to be affecting Interac pay systems.

On its website, Shaw says it’s had about 4,000 reports of problems.
