Tattoo Celebrates Canada’s Milestone

This summer’s Okanagan Military Tattoo will include a tribute to Canada’s 150th birthday.

The event July 29th and 30th is called “2017 Canada 150-Marching Forward Together.”

Director Norm Crerar says it will also show off Canada’s diversity.

“About 50 dance members of a multi-ethnic dance group and this is to celebrate the different ethnic groups in Canada.”

About 600 performers will take part in the show at Kal Tire Place.

The Tattoo will also feature a Tribute to Vimy Ridge with a large local contingent of militia and cadets.

“A tribute to the veterans is always a very important part of our program and this is going to be a special one because of Vimy.”

The organizers are also very excited at getting the NADEN Band of the Royal Canadian Navy.

“We’ve been looking to have them come here for four years, the four years we’ve been doing this.
It’s the first band ever invited, and this is the first year they’ve been able to come.”

Members of the music cadet band at the Vernon Army camp will march with the NADEN band for some of the numbers.

The RCMP Pipe Band is returning for the first time since 2014.
