Carr’s Landing By-Election in June

Mar 22, 2017 | 3:00 PM

Property owners in Carr’s Landing will be heading to the polls in June along with those in Oyama thanks to two by-elections that are now necessary in Lake Country.

The sudden death of Owen Dickie in Oyama and the resignation of councilor Matt Vader to become the municipalities new Manager of Strategic & Support Services necessitate the votes.

Reyna Seabrook, Chief Elections Officer, says council will officially choose a date for both by-elections April 5th.

“I’m looking at June 24th for general voting day. It hasn’t been confirmed by council, but hopefully that’s the date I’m going to recommend.”

Seabrook says only residents in Oyama and Carr’s Landing will be voting.

“You have to be a resident of Carr’s Landing to vote for your Carr’s Landing councilor and the same for Oyama. You can also be a non-resident property elector, which means you can own property in Oyama or Carr’s Landing but live elsewhere in BC.”

Seabrook says there will be advance polls earlier in June with the actual by-election day being June 24th.

“One will be held in Oyama and one in Carr’s Landing on the same days so we are looking at June 14th and June 20th and be open 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. those days and June 24th in both of those wards.”

There will also be mail-in voting for both wards.
