Sep 7, 2018 | 9:07 AM

Update:

The Vernon Vipers will start the new BCHL season with new owners.

Tom and John Glen have bought the team from Libby Wray, who took over the ownership when her husband Duncan Wray died in January.

The Wray family had owned the team for 26 years.

John Glen is from Edmonton, and Tom Glen is from Regina.

Beach Radio News has a message in to talk to the new owners and find out their plans.

Todd Miller remains the vice president of the team, and says the rest of the staff has been retained as well.

“My understanding is the staff will stay in place as we are now, including every other staff member, both our assistant coaches, our business people, Sheryl and Brenda, myself and Mark (Ferner, head coach and GM),” Miller told Beach Radio News. (Pete McIntyre/9 am)

It’s official – New owners are taking over the Vernon Vipers.

Tom and John  Glen have bought the club from owner Libby Wray, who assumed ownership when her husband Duncan Wray passed away in January.

She says it was an extremely tough decision.

“This club was something my husband was very passionate about and we wanted to make the right decision going forward. The Glens will be excellent owners and very committed to the City of Vernon and the legacy which Duncan created. I truly believe the club is in great hands.”

John Glen, who has had significant Junior A Hockey experience , states,

“We would like to extend our thanks and sincere appreciation to the Wray family for making this opportunity possible and for their dedication to the BCHL and the Vernon Vipers over the past 26 years. We are thrilled to become part of the Vernon Vipers legacy and look forward to being involved in the community of Vernon and with the loyal sponsors, fans and supporters. As a hockey family ourselves we are very excited for the 18-19 season and for many successful seasons to
follow.”

The Vipers open the BCHL regular season tonight at 7 o’clock as they host the Wenatchee Wild at Kal Tire Place.
