Celebration Set For New Arena

Celebration Set For New Arena

Sep 6, 2018 | 6:00 PM

It’s going to be a busy opening weekend for Greater Vernon’s new arena.

Kal Tire Place North will be officially opened at a ribbon cutting Friday afternoon at 5 pm, followed by the Vipers season opener against Wenatchee in the main building.

Doug Ross, Recreation Services Director with the City, says it’s all part of a three day community celebration.

“And then on Saturday, we’ve got public skating from 10 to 2. Of course, there is the concert, with tickets selling very well for Loverboy and Platinum Blonde,” Ross tells Beach Radio News

A public market will be held in the Kal Tire North parking lot Sunday.

“That is going well. We’re renting more booths each day, and making other arrangements for kids and families to enjoy,” adds Ross.

Construction on the 13 million dollar, 400 seat facility, took about a year and a half.

“The Kal Tire Place North project started on April 24, 2017 with an official sod turning event,” says Ross. “In under a year and a half the project team has managed to build this wonderful new asset for our Greater Vernon community. I’m pleased to announce that the project came in on time and on budget, early reviews have been very
positive, so it has been a very successful project. In many ways, we have been diligently Working for the Weekend to celebrate the new arena.”
