Master Plan Input Needed

Apr 26, 2018 | 10:00 AM

The deadline for providing input into the Greater Vernon Recreation Master Plan is this Monday.

The plan will guide recreation facilities and programs over the next 15 years.

Director of Recreation Services Doug Ross says they’ve received 350 online surveys and 50 hard copies so far.

“We would really like to see those numbers climb by April 30,” says Ross.

Ross says in addition to the public survey, 7,500 household surveys were mailed out randomly in February.

“The mail out was done as a control group to provide statistically reliable information. The consultants reported that 1,236 or 16.5% of the control surveys were completed.”

Connecting with youth is another goal for plan, with recreation staff hosting interactive opportunities for students in the high schools and at Okanagan College to provide input on the plan.

“We got some great feedback. Our suggestion boards were full of ideas after each visit,” says Ross.

Consultants have also spoken with over 50 key stakeholder groups to get a better understanding of the groups’ future needs for recreation.
