North Okanagan NDP Anxious To Meet New Leader

Oct 3, 2017 | 8:46 AM

Members of the North Okanagan-Shuswap NDP are anxious to learn more about their new federal leader.

Jagmeet Singh won the job Sunday with a first ballot victory.

North Okanagan Shuswap riding association President Alice Brown is looking forward to meeting him.

“I’m pretty impressed with what I heard. I found that when he came into tricky situations he managed to hand them well. he seem to think well on his feet. He’s ambitious. He signed up a lot of members. He got his people out to vote. I think he can do a lot for the party.”

Brown hopes Singh’s ability to attract new  members will transfer to this area.

” I would say that one of the first reasons he did so well on the first ballot is because he signed up a lot of new members and that’s always an advantage to a party to have a lot of new members come in, new energy and new faces.”

Brown confirms she has invited Jagmeet Singh to the riding’s AGM in November and has not had a reply yet.

“I did and he hasn’t gotten back to me. I did get an email back that he’ll be contacting me shortly. I’m hoping that he’ll do a little tour down through this area now that he’s a lead and get people motivated for the next election.”

Singh signed up a lot of members in BC and figures from the voting breakdown show that may have played a role in the higher voter turnout.
