Cooler Temperatures Keep Joe Rich Fire Stable
Update: 8:15 am
Weather has been a good help in keeping the Philpott Road fire in Kelowna’s Joe Rich fire stable.
” We definitely saw a drop in wind activity and temperatures out there on the fire, which contributed to a decrease in fire behaviour and we can confirm that there was no significant spread on the fire last night.”
Justine Hunse with the BC Wildfire Service says the fire is still estimated at 380 hectares in size.
Twenty-three Wildfire Service crews are working with firefighters from from Joe Rich, Ellison, Kelowna, Peachland and Lake Country along with ten other fire departments throughout the interior.
A new assessment will be done this morning to determine how to attack the fire today.
.
Meanwhile, 1100 people from 474 properties remain evacuated from their homes.A decision on the possible opening Highway 33 is expected later this morning. For now, it remains closed from the Gallaghers Road intersection on the City of Kelowna to Big White Road.
