Arrest made after Sneena Road grass fire

A 29-year-old man has been arrested following a grass fire near Highway 97 and Sneena Road that briefly sparked concern in West Kelowna over the weekend.

West Kelowna RCMP said officers and fire crews responded to reports of a grass fire at about 5:18 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. West Kelowna Fire Rescue was able to quickly bring the blaze under control.

Police said witness information played a key role in identifying a suspect connected to the incident.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in relation to the fire and is facing potential charges of arson and mischief.

“Information provided by witnesses played a significant role in helping officers quickly identify and locate the suspect,” said Cpl. Devon Gerrits, media relations officer with West Kelowna RCMP.

Police have not released further details and said the investigation remains ongoing.

With dry conditions continuing across the region, authorities are reminding residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity or fire risks immediately.
