Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-1 victory over the Blackfalds Bulldogs at Kal Tire Place on Sunday afternoon.

Toms Trockis scored his third and team-leading fourth goals of the season to lead Vernon’s offence. Mason Kim and Cole Bieksa also scored, Van Martin recorded two assists, and Sammy DiBlasi made 24 saves on 25 shots for his third win of the season.

Special teams played a significant role in the result, with Blackfalds giving Vernon nine powerplay opportunities. The Vipers converted twice, including Trockis’s game-winning goal and a third-period marker from Kim.

Vernon also killed both Bulldogs powerplays, maintaining its perfect penalty-killing record. The Vipers remain the only BCHL team yet to allow a powerplay goal this season.

Luke Walkauskas scored for Blackfalds. Bulldogs goaltender Oliver Kiraly stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced.

The victory completed a two-win weekend for Vernon following Friday’s 4-1 win over Salmon Arm.

The Vipers improved to 5-1-0-0 and sit tied with West Kelowna atop the Interior West Division. The teams meet Friday, October 9, at Kal Tire Place.
