Vernon mayoral candidate withdraws from the race

There will be one less name on the ballot when voters go to elect the next mayor of Vernon.

ElectionsBC said Jerrod Stephenson has withdrawn his name and will not run in the fall municipal election.

The withdrawal means there will be just three candidates vying for the seat: incumbent Mayor Victor Cumming, incumbent Councillor Kari Gares, and former Mayor Wayne Lippert.

Votes will be cast in the local general election Oct. 17.
