Armstrong councillor looking to serve fourth term

A long-time Armstrong city councillor is looking to retain his seat.

Steven Drapala announced he will run in the fall municipal election in a bid to serve a fourth term in office.

“The decisions I make on council, will be guided by my desire to maintain Armstrong as the close-knit, inclusive community that we all love,” Drapala said in an email to Vernon Matters.

“I will also lean on my background in science to make educated decisions regarding sustainable, responsible development and resiliency to climate change. In addition to this, one of the strengths I bring to Council is the ability to communicate and collaborate with fellow councillors to find common ground when differing viewpoints arise.”

In addition to serving with those intentions, Drapala said the next term he would prioritize building strong relationships with other municipalities, businesses and residents; formalize a consultation framework to improve community engagement in the decision making process; and create a communication plan to increase transparence.

“It has been my pleasure to serve the residents of Armstrong for the past three terms,” Drapala stated.

“I have found the role to be both challenging and rewarding, and I love that I get to learn by listening to the perspectives of residents, fellow councillors, and staff.”

Votes will be cast in the local general election on Oct. 17.
