Mission UnderAware Campaign A Huge Success

Jul 31, 2017 | 12:16 PM

The Upper Room Mission’s UnderAware drive has been more successful than organizers could have imagined.

When the drive began at the beginning of July, they were hoping to get 250 pairs of new underwear for their clients.

Executive Director Lisa Anderson says the result was amazing.

“We were yesterday at around 1800 pair. This morning, Community Futures came and gave us a big donation, so we might be at almost 1900.”

Anderson says they launched the drive because for people living in poverty or homelessness, it’s sometimes difficult to acquire new underwear.

“It was the first time that we ever did an underwear drive, so we weren’t really sure what to expect. The community really came together and brought in the underwear for us and we’re so thankful and our guests are even more thankful.”

Anderson says it will all be packaged up and to be ready to hand out.

“We’ve been bagging all the underwear and putting them into men’s, women’s, we’ve been sorting and of course we’ve already been giving them out. We will just continue to give them out until we run out.”

Although the drive ends today, anyone still wishing to donate can still do so by dropping in at the mission at 3403 27th Avenue Monday to Friday between 9 am and 6 pm.
