Push On For Volunteers For 55 Plus Games

Jul 31, 2017 | 6:39 AM

Greater Vernon and Armstrong are just over a month away from hosting over three thousand participants for the 55 Plus BC games.

The event will have competition in two dozen events September 12 to 16.

Promotions director Anne Haight says they have about 700 volunteers signed up so far, which is similar to previous Games.

“I looked at the 2014 Games (in Langley), which is comparable to the numbers we need, and we’re ahead. It starts to really pick up in August and that’s what we’re really hoping for,”Haight tells Kiss FM.

Haight says the biggest needs are for hosts, first aid attendants (with level one training), drivers (some Class 4), and people for set-up and take down.

Haight says most of the participants will be transported by bus.

You can call the volunteer team to sign up at 250 306 0718 — or by going to the 55 Plus Games website. (www.55plusgames.ca)

Haight says overall planning is on track and looking good.

“Our next big meeting is Aug. 12 and 13 at Kal Tire Place where we do our progress reports. It’s our last dry run prior the Games, so we go through all the directorates and make sure everything is on track,” adds Haight.

It will be the 30th 55Plus BC Games (formerly called the BC Seniors Games), and Vernon was the first host back in 1988
