A new council candidate has thrown her hat into the ring with a promise to listen to citizens.

Diana Wilson announced she would run for a Vernon City Council seat in the fall municipal election. Wilson said she wanted to listen to the needs of residents and take actions that address those concerns.

“I already think Vernon is an incredible place to live, but I want to help make it even better,” Wilson stated.

Key focuses for Wilson’s campaign involved:

  • Building a community that attracts and retains young people and families
  • Supporting local businesses and a vibrant economy
  • Ensuring seniors have services and opportunities needed to stay active and connected
  • Addressing challenges with water supply and drought
  • Creating affordable housing
  • Addressing homelessness and revitalizing the downtown core

Wilson said taking on these challenges would require thoughtful discussion, collaboration, and informed decision making.

“Listening will be a big part of my campaign,” Wilson said. “I want to understand what matters to people across Vernon and hear different perspectives.”

The Local General Election goes October 17.
