SD22 trustee looking to retain seat

A School District 22 trustee will have her name back on the ballot.

Kelli Sullivan announced she will run for her seat again in the fall municipal election.

Sullivan was elected to the board in 2022, and in 2024 took over as board chair.

Along with being a trustee, Sullivan said she had been involved in the school system for over two decades as she volunteered with the Kidston Elementary, Kalamalka Secondary, and School District 22 Parent Advisory Councils in the years her children attended the schools. She was also one of just five trustees in B.C. appointed to the B.C. School Trustee Association (BCSTA) Legislative Committee, and was one of three selected to serve on the BCSTA Board Policy Review Advisory Committee.

“It has been a privilege to represent Coldstream while serving students, families, staff, and the broader SD22 community,” Sullivan stated.

“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past four years and would welcome the opportunity to continue that work.”

In her first term, Sullivan said she worked with other trustees to review and modernize policies and governance practices, led the development of SD22’s Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy, worked to improve transparency and engagement, and chaired the SD22 Audit Committee.

The candidate said she remained committed to supporting student success and safeguarding the district’s financial stability, which were included in her campaign focuses.

Advocating for equitable and sustainable funding that supports all students
Maintaining a two per cent contingency reserve to protect classroom supports and ensure long-term financial stability
Improving student achievement, strengthening supports for students with diverse needs, and continuing efforts to close achievement gaps for Indigenous learners
Working with students, families, staff, and the community to help shape SD22’s 2027 Strategic Plan and future direction
Strengthening community partnerships that support student learning, well-being, and success

“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together over the past four years,” Sullivan said.

“As we look ahead, I remain committed to working alongside students, families, staff, OKIB, and community partners to ensure every student in School District 22 has the opportunity to thrive.”

The school district trustee votes will be tallied as part of the local general election on Oct. 17.
