Monte Lake Area Fire Stable

The Martin Mountain fire near Monte Lake is still at 150 hectares today and remains 30 per cent contained.

Max Birkner with the BC Wildfire Service says there is a big boost in the number of personnel dealing with the fire.

“Thirteen firefighters and heavy equipment worked on the fire overnight, and today we have 75 firefighters as well as air tankers, helicopters, water tenders and heavy equipment that are working to increase the containment on the fire.”

Birkner says the weather in the area is similar to yesterday.

“We’re just hoping we’re not going to get any surprise winds out there. As it stands right now, we’re expecting in the 15 to 25 kilometre an hour range winds or less. So things look good on that end. As long as that holds up, that’s really going to help our suppression efforts.”

Birkner says they’re very happy to have been able to hold the fire.

“We’ve had some worries from people in the area that live outside of the area where the fire has affected. We’re happy to deliver the good news that the fire is not spreading.”

Birkner was not able to comment on reports some homes have been damaged by the fire.
