The long-term mayor of Lumby will look to retake his seat in the fall municipal election.

Incumbent Kevin Acton was first elected to Village of Lumby Council in 2008, and in 2009 he was elected as mayor, a role he has held since.

“I’m deeply grateful for the support and trust this wonderful community has shown me over the years. It has been an incredible honour to serve as Mayor, and I’m excited to announce that I’m running again,” Acton said in a release.

“I’m asking the people of Lumby to put their trust in me one more time.”

The incumbent said during his four terms he led the village with a philosophy of listening to residents, working collaboratively, and doing what he believed to be in the best interest of the community.

“I’ve always said how much I enjoy this job and how proud I am to represent Lumby. I’ve never believed in making a long list of election promises,” Acton stated.

“Everyone has their own ideas and opinions about what Lumby should do and where our community should go. My job is to listen to those perspectives, bring people together and make the best decisions we can as a community.”

Over the almost two decades in office, Acton said Lumby had seen significant investments in community amenities, infrastructure improvements, water and wastewater systems, and flood protection. The village also worked with other levels of governments and community groups to advance projects within the municipalities, and Acton said it was those partnerships that helped accomplish those works.

“Anything we have accomplished in Lumby has been because people worked together — Council, Village staff, community organizations, volunteers, businesses, other levels of government and, most importantly, the residents who make Lumby what it is,” the current mayor stated, adding he wanted to continue to lead Lumby and continue the work done over the years.

“I still enjoy coming to work for the people of Lumby. I still enjoy talking with residents, working through challenges and finding opportunities for our community. Lumby is a special place, and I’m proud to call it home.

“As we look toward the next four years, I’m not going to promise that I have every answer. What I can promise is that I will continue to show up, listen, work hard and represent Lumby to the very best of my ability.

“I would be honoured to have the community’s support and trust one more time.”

The local general election is scheduled for Oct. 17.
