Kal Park Closure Requests

Jul 28, 2017 | 7:18 AM

The company in charge of operating Kal Lake Provincial Park, says it’s had several requests to close the park due to the fire danger.

Warren Eurchuk — area supervisor for Kaloya Contracting — says the requests from park users and concerned residents have been forwarded to BC Parks.

“We`ve been advised that people want it, have requested it`being closed. We`ve advised the government of the requests and they are in contract with other government agencies to make that final decision.”

Eurchuk says it’s up to the BC Wildfire Service to decide if provincial parks are shut down.

And that`s the same with all our parks, because we`ve got Fintry and Bear Creek and all the little back country things, behind Okanagan Lake, Myra-Bellvue and at this point in time there has been no movement.“

Concern was raised about Kal Park because despite the fire danger and no smoking signs posted in the park, people are still smoking, and dozens of cigarette butts have been collected along the trails by volunteers.
