Former Vernon Mayor looking to retake seat

A two-term Mayor of Vernon is looking to get back into local politics.

Wayne Lippert announced he will run in the fall election, seeking to retake his Mayor’s seat.

Lippert said Vernon needs practical leadership focused on issues residents care most about.

“Vernon is a city with incredible potential, but many residents have told me they feel City Hall has lost sight of the fundamentals,” Lippert said in a release.

“Our community deserves leadership that listens, spends taxpayers’ money responsibly, and makes decisions that strengthen our city today while preparing for tomorrow.”

The former-Mayor’s campaign had five key focuses:

Respecting Taxpayers through responsible spending and sound financial management
Building Safer Streets by making public safety a top priority while supporting compassionate, practical solutions to homelessness and community disorder
Supporting Local Business by reducing unnecessary red tape and creating an environment where businesses can grow and create jobs
Investing in Infrastructure by maintaining roads, planning for growth, and improving long-term water security
Putting Families and Seniors First by ensuring Vernon remains a safe, welcoming, and affordable place to live for people of all ages.

Lippert noted his campaign focuses were based on solutions brought forward through conversations with residents.

“This campaign is about Vernon,” he said.

“It’s about restoring confidence in City Hall, respecting taxpayers, supporting our local economy, and ensuring our city remains a great place to raise a family and retire. Together, we can get Vernon back on track.”

Lippert served as Mayor from 2005 to 2011, and claimed that past experience was evidence of his ability to lead, be fiscally responsible, and participate in collaborative decision-making.

“Leadership is about listening, bringing people together, and making decisions that are in the best interest of the entire community,” Lippert said.

“I have had the privilege of serving Vernon before, and I am ready to serve again with the experience, energy, and commitment our city needs.”

Along with being a former Mayor, Lippert has been an active member of the community, operating a local hobby shop, working as a mechanic, and serving as Director of the Vernon Fish and Game Club. He’s also a husband, father and grandfather.

The Local General Election goes October 17.
