The wildfire in the Okanagan Indian Band lands is still being held, though there was a risk of some flare-ups Friday.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the fire was contained and still estimated at 2,658.1 hectares as of Aug. 14.

However, the BCWS warned that sunny and hot weather could dry out fuels Friday, and that, coupled with shifting winds and a potential thunderstorm in the afternoon, could raise the wildfire’s activity.

The provincial firefighting agency continues to attack the blaze, patrolling the southern and western flanks and extinguishing hot spots. Helicopters are also assigned to bucketing the fire while structure protection and heavy equipment crews were on standby and ready to assist with operations as needed.

The BCWS has a total of 116 firefighters, six helicopters, six structure protection personnel and 20 pieces of heavy equipment assigned to the Bradley and Quilpituk Creek wildfires. The latter was also described as ‘Being Held’ and saw some evacuation orders downgraded to Alerts Friday.

B .C. Hydro was also working in the area, restoring power to affected properties.

The BCWS reminded people to not approach fire scenes by boat, personal aircraft, or using a drone, as they can interfere with firefighting operations.

People were also urged to report any new fires to by dialing *5555 on a cell phone, calling 1-800-663-5555, or using the BCWS app.
