B.C. Premier David Eby says he heard heartbreaking stories from evacuees during a visit to the South Okanagan Wednesday, where he met with evacuees, emergency crews and local officials responding to the Bald Range wildfire.

Speaking in Penticton, Eby said, “Today, I met with people whose lives have been turned upside down by these wildfires.”

He says families were forced to leave their homes with little warning, while others are anxiously waiting to find out if they have anything left to return to.

Eby also spoke with business owners worried about their employees and their future, and says some evacuees he met have “lost everything.”

He praised the volunteers and emergency crews helping those displaced by the Bald Range fire, calling their efforts “world class.”

Eby says the province will continue to support the communities affected by the fire and learn from how quickly the situation unfolded.
