Kelowna RCMP warn drivers about speeding, vehicle transfer issues

Kelowna RCMP are warning drivers about two preventable problems on local roads: excessive speeding and incomplete vehicle ownership transfers.

The RCMP Road Safety Unit said speeding remains a leading factor in fatal crashes across British Columbia. More than 150 vehicles have been impounded in Kelowna this year for excessive speeding, which is defined as driving 41 km/h or more above the posted limit.

Police said a single offence can cost motorists more than $2,500 when fines, towing fees, impound costs, insurance increases, and driver risk premiums are included.

RCMP are also reminding buyers and sellers to complete vehicle ownership transfers immediately. Police said some sellers have been left dealing with abandoned vehicles or other issues because transfers were never finalized.
