Kelowna nurses rally over alleged intimidation during job action

Members of the B.C. Nurses Union are holding a rally in Kelowna, calling on Interior Health to respect nurses participating in legal job action.

The rally is scheduled for Monday afternoon near Kelowna General Hospital at the intersection of Pandosy Street and Rose Avenue.

BCNU says the event is aimed at supporting nurses who have reported what the union describes as intimidation, coercion and interference while following union direction during the labour dispute.

The union says it has received more than 5,200 reports from nurses across British Columbia since job action began July 2. Those reports include allegations of pressure to perform struck work, threats of discipline and interference with nurses ability to participate in lawful job action.

BCNU says the Kelowna rally follows a similar event held in Prince George last week as the union continues calling on health employers to respect nurses legal rights.
