“The RDNO’s Solid Waste Management service is funded primarily through user fees, with only a small portion supported through taxation,” the Regional District stated in a release.

“This funding model reflects the principles of the RDNO Solid Waste Management Plan, which promotes a polluter-pay and user-pay approach. Under this model, residents who generate more waste generally pay more, while those who generate less waste pay less.”

To help cut down on waste going into the landfills, people were encouraged to recycle and reuse viable materials, and use their curbside organics cart or start backyard compositing for disposing of food waste when possible. More tips on how to keep waste out of the landfills can be found at the RDNO website.
