Kalamoir Park partially reopening

A park in West Kelowna burned in a wildfire in June will partially reopen Friday.

Starting at noon July 3, the portions of the park will reopen including the Collens Hill Road entrance, Sunnyside Trail, and the dog designated Bowser Beach.

The portions reopening to the public had undergone hazard tree and geotechnical assessments.

Other areas of the park will remain closed for remediation work, including hazard tree mitigation scheduled to begin July 6.

“This reopening is an important step in restoring access to Kalamoir Regional Park for our community,” Tracy Draper, Director of Park Services, said.

“While we’re happy to welcome visitors back to some areas, safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate the public’s cooperation as work continues.”

The Regional District of Central Okanagan warned the closed portion of the park posed hazards and dangers to the public, and anyone found trespassing in the closed area could be fined up to $500.
