Enderby resident recognized for decades of community work

A longtime community member has been recognized for his work in the North Okanagan.

Peter Gilowski was given the Lifetime Civic Merit Award from the City of Enderby Friday, June 18.

Gilowski moved to Enderby in 1966, and in 1968 joined the Enderby and District Lions Club.

Over the following six decades Gilowski served in nearly every executive role with the club, and was instrumental in launching and maintaining the Lions Club Garage Sale.

The Garage Sale raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years in support of community projects, local events, and non-profit organizations. That included contributing to the development of the new Enderby Outdoor Pool, and bringing the A.L. Fortune Secondary School to Enderby, the latter of which Gilowski said was among his most significant accomplishment.

“I was very proud to get the high school to Enderby, I worked hard,” Gilowski stated in a release.

“I worked hard for the senior complex, which is a very successful building and the seniors love it. And I was always in business. I have many, many businesses.”

Gilowski was presented the award outside the Enderby Curling Club, where the Lions Club hosts its Garage Sale.
