Milestones reached at rowing event in Vernon

Two milestones were reached at the annual rowing regatta at Swan Lake.

Sierra Munroe and Cole O’Connor of the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club secured the overall victory and the Founders’ Cup in the Mixed Double race at the Lap the Lake regatta held over the weekend.

The event drew in competitors from all over, and four B.C. clubs earned top-ten overall finishes.

The host club also earned spots among the top of the standings.

Richard Fergie finished third overall in the Men’s Open Single event, Marilia Kuzmenko finished sixth overall and claimed in the Ugly Duckling award as the regatta’s top-performing junior athlete, Leo Middlekamp finished eighth overall, and Petras and Jonas Masys placed fourth overall in the Men’s Open Double while also recording the fastest raw time of the entire morning.

The Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club’s next event will be hosting the B.C. Summer Games rowing event July 22 to 26.
